PRP (platelet rich plasma) promotes healing and regeneration of the skin and boosts the production of healthy, new skin cells. It activates fibroblasts, which in turn boost production of collagen, a protein that works as the scaffolding of the skin and provides smoothness, elasticity and firmness in the skin. It also boosts your skin’s production of hyaluronic acid. This acid increases skin’s moisture levels, helping to plump and smooth the skin. It also has antioxidant properties which help to prevent skin aging. It also helps improve blood supply to the skin, which helps the skin receive the nutrients it needs and also helps to provide a fresh and dewy glow to the skin.

PRP can help prevent or slow hair loss and stimulate growth of hair, especially after a transplant. It does this by stimulating the cells in the hair follicle and by improving blood supply to the hair follicle. It is proven to increase hair count, thicken hair and elongate the growth phase of the growth cycle for hair. ​

Microneedling is when tiny “microscopic” hole are made to the skin. This process stimulates your skin to heal itself, which boosts collagen. Fine lines, scars, acne scarring and uneven skin tone are all improved. PRP treatment involves using your own PRP (platelet rich plasma) which contains several components which in turn stimulate healing of the skin. The PRP can be delivered into the skin after microneedling. However, it can also be delivered using injections for deeper penetration into the skin tissues. Like microneedling alone, PRP helps fine lines, scars, acne scarring and uneven skin tone – however the results are more dramatic and longer lasting than they would be with microneedling alone. PRP also helps hair loss and thinning when used in the scalp – microneedling does not.

For your first ever PRP treatment, regardless of whether it is for your skin or hair, we always recommend getting 3 treatments, each spaces approximately 4-6 weeks apart. This helps to kick start the rejuvenation process and provide longer lasting results. After three treatments, results usually last between 12 and 24 months. To maintain effects, patients often return for treatment top-ups every 6-12 months – these top ups typically consist of only one treatment and not a course of 3. It is possible to have just 1 or 2 treatments in the beginning, however results will not be as dramatic or long lasting.

For skin treatments, patients often start to see results approximately a week after treatment. Peak improvement is usually seen between 1-3 months after treatment, as this as given time for new collagen to form. For hair treatments, you may notice a difference by 2 weeks, however the most noticeable results are seen between 3 and 6 months after treatment.

The whole process takes approximately an hour, however this will vary depending on how many areas you treat.

Yes, you can. In fact, adding PRP to your treatments will enhance the results of your other injectable treatments.

The treatment involves either microneedling, injections or a combination of both, and therefore can be mildly uncomfortable. However, strong topical anaesthetics are used to reduce discomfort. The treatment should not be painful.

The skin is often a little tender and red. There might be small marks where injections and/or microneedling was performed. Some patients have a little swelling or small lumps. These side effects are usually mild and resolve within 24-48 hours.

The treated area may be a little red and/or tender, but this usually minimal and subsides within 24-48 hours.
