What Are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers are made from hyaluronic acid — a moisture-loving molecule that naturally exists in your skin. When carefully placed beneath the surface, it can softly lift, sculpt, or smooth. Whether you’re hoping to restore volume or enhance definition, fillers can be used across multiple areas including cheeks, lips, jaw, and chin. At Dr Naz Clinics, we believe in tailored, honest treatment. No packages, no pressure — just thoughtful tweaks that help you feel more like yourself again.

It’s Not About Volume – It’s About Balance

Done well, fillers don’t just fill. They rebalance. Sometimes that means adding structure to the jawline, other times it’s about restoring plumpness to the cheeks or lips. We’ll always look at your face as a whole, not in isolated parts. During consultation, Dr Naz will gently map out what will make the biggest difference — often, it’s less than you think. And if filler isn’t the right approach for you, she’ll say so.

Tailored To You

We believe in creating a plan that makes sense for your features, lifestyle, and how you want to feel. We’ll talk about timing, cost, and the result you’re looking for — whether it’s softening smile lines or sculpting your profile. There’s no one-size-fits-all here.

And if you’ve had dermal filler before and weren’t happy with the results, we’ll take that into account. We can often adjust or dissolve old filler before starting fresh. The aim? A result you feel proud of — and still look like you.

FAQS

They’re made from hyaluronic acid, a sugar-like molecule found naturally in your skin, where its job is to attract and hold water to keep skin hydrated and full. In filler form, it’s a smooth gel that adds volume and gentle structure wherever it’s placed. Different areas call for different consistencies, so a firmer gel is used to support the cheeks or jaw and a softer one for the lips. Because hyaluronic acid occurs naturally in the body, it breaks down gradually over time, and it can also be dissolved if needed, which is a real safety advantage over permanent fillers.

It depends mainly on the area treated and the type of gel used, but most last somewhere between 6 and 18 months. Firmer, structural fillers in areas like the cheeks, chin, and jaw tend to last longer, while softer filler in a mobile area like the lips breaks down more quickly. It fades gradually rather than all at once, so many people choose a top-up before it fully goes, and Dr Naz will suggest a realistic maintenance rhythm based on the areas you’ve had done.

Most people find it very manageable. We apply numbing cream first, and many fillers also contain a small amount of local anaesthetic, so it becomes more comfortable as the treatment goes on. Most clients describe small pinches or a feeling of pressure rather than real pain.

Yes, most people head straight back to their day. You might have some swelling, small injection marks, or the odd bruise, particularly with lip treatments, but these usually settle quickly. To help everything settle cleanly, we’d suggest avoiding makeup over the area for around 24 hours, and skipping strenuous exercise, alcohol, and very hot environments like saunas for a day or two. The result looks its best once any swelling eases over a week or two.

That’s a common reason people come to us, and it’s very fixable. Because Dr Naz is a medical doctor, she can assess older filler and, where appropriate, dissolve it using an enzyme called hyaluronidase before planning fresh treatment. That matters, because hyaluronidase is a prescription medicine that only a medical prescriber can hold and administer, so not every injector is able to offer it. We’d usually talk through what you weren’t happy with, dissolve if it’s needed, then let the area settle before rebuilding a result that genuinely suits you.

A natural result comes down to judgement: the right product, in the right place, in the right amount, and a willingness to say no. The overfilled look usually comes from too much product, or from filler being layered up over years, which is exactly what Dr Naz avoids. She tends to use less than people expect and build gradually, so you leave looking refreshed.

Dermal fillers have a strong safety record when they’re carried out by a medically qualified injector in a proper clinical setting using licensed products, which is exactly how Dr Naz works as a GMC-registered doctor. Most side effects are minor and temporary, such as swelling, bruising, or tenderness. More serious complications, like filler affecting a blood vessel, are rare, and the best protection against them is an injector who understands the facial anatomy, recognises the early warning signs, and can act quickly

Yes. Treatment is only for adults aged 18 and over. This isn’t just clinic policy; it’s the law: under the Botulinum Toxin and Cosmetic Fillers (Children) Act 2021, it is illegal in England to give dermal fillers to anyone under 18 for cosmetic reasons, even with a parent’s consent. Being over 18 is the starting point rather than the only consideration, so everyone still has a full consultation first, and Dr Naz will always check that treatment is genuinely right for you before going ahead.

Client Reviews

Perfectionist!

“Dr Naz is so professional and a perfectionist. She really puts you at ease. I’m so pleased with my results. I like to look fresh and natural and Naz achieved this. She is also very gentle, which is so important. It’s the first time I’ve been able to comfortably have lip filler without a dental block, although a block is available if you wish.”
